MUMBAI: Properties worth over ₹125 crore have been handed over to the liquidator as part of the process, ED said.The decision by a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court followed an application from the victim banks—PNB and ICICI Bank—for initiating the restitution process under PMLA Act.The application, backed by ED, was pending for decision since November 2022 and such delay in the release/restoration of properties was delaying the recovery of public funds, the applicants said. The properties were also subject to general wear and tear and therefore, their value was decreasing day by day, they added. On Tuesday, the special court ordered that sale proceeds must be deposited as fixed deposits after deducting all associated costs and expenses incurred for the purpose of carrying out valuation/auction. The fixed deposits would be in favour of the court and be distributed in accordance with the final outcome of the applications, the order stated. Following the order, ED said it has started restituting assets worth ₹2,565.90 crore as part of its PMLA probe against Choksi.
