He posted a picture welcoming his wife, Kalpana Soren, with a bouquet in front of a helicopter at Ranchi airport with a caption addressing her: "My star campaigner". She had just landed from Giridih after getting a second term from the Gandey assembly seat.
The picture symbolised a major political development in the state—the emergence of Kalpana Soren as a towering political figure who had entered politics by default but made an impactful debut.
'The forced debut'
Kalpana Soren made her formal entry into politics on March 4 during the 51st foundation day celebration of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in Giridih. It was over a month after Hemant Soren was arrested on January 30 by the Enforcement Directorate from Raj Bhawan, minutes after he resigned as chief minister, accompanied by Champai Soren, who staked claim to form the new government.
