With this, the state government will now not have to send names to the UPSC panel for appointment of a DGP, cabinet secretary Vandana Dadel said after the cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Hemant Soren.
"The cabinet has approved to institute a panel that would select DGP. The selection committee would be chaired by a retired judge from the high court, which will also include the chief secretary, a nominee from the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), the chairman or a nominee from the Jharkhand Public Service Commission and the additional chief secretary or principal secretary of the home department," said Dadel.
The new guidelines were similar to a few other states, including Uttar Pradesh, the cabinet secretary added.
