JAMSHEDPUR: The issue of waste dumping in Jamshedpur's Mango locality has sparked a political slugfest, with the Congress blaming Janata Dal (United) or JD(U) MLA Saryu Roy and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s city wing opposing the proposal of waste dumping by the Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) at Tata Steel's Bara Complex, people aware of the matter said on Saturday.
The Congress, mostly supporters of former state health minister Banna Gupta, staged a dharna at Gandhi Maidan near the MMC office in Mango on Saturday, blaming Roy for the problem. "The collection of waste in the Mango area has been stalled for the past 15 days due to the complaint filed by the sitting Jamshedpur (West) MLA (Saryu Roy) in the National Green Tribunal (NGT). These waste dumps here and there have started rotting, spreading stench, and posing a threat of an epidemic. MMC has not been sprinkling bleaching powder and insecticides," alleged Nitesh Mittal, a Congress leader.
