DRAPUR: A 35-year-old was arrested for allegedly selling drugs after an encounter in US Nagar district, police said Tuesday, adding that they recovered 250g of heroin and illegal weapon from him.
The accused, identified as Unazeer from Kunda area of Kashipur, was arrested during police's routine check near a cemetery in Kashipur on Monday night.
"A suspicious man on a bike was intercepted but instead of stopping he fled. Police chased him but he fired on police. Police also fired on him in retaliation. He was injured after receiving a bullet on his right leg," US Nagar senior superintendent of police (SSP) Aniruddh Mishra said.
"The accused is a habitual offender. Police is investigating his criminal background also," he further said.
Last week, Dehradun police arrested a man facing over a dozen cases after an encounter in Selaqui area of the district.
