Intensifying their agitation demanding stringent land laws, activists under the banner of "Mool Niwas Bhoo Kanoon Samanvaya Sangarsh Samiti" will hold a mahapanchayat in Kirti Nagar village, Tehri Garhwal, on December 30 as part of the plan to extend their movement to rural areas to mobilise support, people familiar with the matter said on Monday.

Protesters to mobilise support in rural areas for strict land law

DEHRADUN:

Lusun Todariya, co-convenor of the samiti, said, "We initially organised rallies in urban centres such as Dehradun, Haldwani, Kotdwar, Haridwar to push our demand for implementation of a strict land law in the state. Now, we have planned to take our movement to rural areas."

"As part of the plan, we will organise a mahapanchayat in Kirti Nagar in Tehri Garhwal on December 30. We will plan more such events in different blocks of all 13 districts across the state to mobilise the support for the movement for the land law," he said.

He further said that several village panchayats have announced a ban on the sale of land in their respective villages. "The new addition to the list is Dhamkot village of Tehri Garhwal district. We are hopeful that more panchayats will join our mission to save our land from land mafias," he said.

Since December last year, the samiti has organised rallies in Dehradun, Haldwani, Tehri Garhwal, Kotdwar, Srinagar, Gairsain, Rishikesh and Haridwar, to demand strict land law in the state.
