Setback for rescue ops at Assam mine site as water level rises again

Efforts to drain water from the flooded coal mine in Assam's Dima Hasao district faced setbacks on Monday as water from a nearby aquifer continued filling the quarry, even as officials deployed additional pumps to aid the operation.

GUWAHATI:

The water level, which had decreased significantly by Saturday evening following sustained dewatering operations, has risen again, hampering the search for at least five miners who remain after the quarry was flooded on January 6, officials said.
