Go wild this festive season

THE festive season is an infamously busy time, no matter how you celebrate, or who with.

Something I've come to value over the past few years is some time outdoors. A winter walk with my Mum and Dad has become an accidental tradition.

I've come to savour that time away from the pressure, parties and pies. Whether it's on December 25, or during the days leading up to New Year, a jolly jaunt is a must for us.

Any walk in a green space is proven to promote better breathing and immune function, encourage improved sleep and reduce stress levels.

But if you're looking to go further out than your local Manchester park, our city is lucky to have some great nature reserves and spaces for some seasonal solace close by.

Cadishead and Little Woolden Moss is four miles west from the centre of Manchester and is a haven of greenery thanks to restoration work of staff and volunteers.

More than 100 species of bird, including rarities like the stone curlew have been recorded there.

Cutacre, sitting on the Wigan and Salford border, is a favourite reserve of Lancashire Wildlife Trust staff.
