Do you remember the name, The Black Doctors Covid-19 Consortium? They are still here, based in Philadelphia

The Black Doctors Consortium still providing outstanding health care services in Philadelphia

They are still needed as much today as they were when the Pandemic first hit back in 2020. They’ve revamped a bit and changed their name slightly. The mission, however, is still the same, to help take care of the health needs of people in the African American community.

Today they are known as the Black Doctors Consortium. They are based out of the Dr. Ala Stanford Center for Health Equity on the campus of the Deliverance Evangelistic Church at 2001 W. Lehigh Avenue in North Philadelphia. The Center for Health Equity is providing culturally competent, diverse clinicians to provide genuine patient-centered care in the heart of its most vulnerable communities.

Dr. Ala Stanford, the Founder of the Black Doctors Consortium (as demanding as her schedule is) still finds time to see patients by appointment only--she is practicing Family Medicine; Dr. Wendy Powell is on staff as a Gynecologist; Dr. Pierre Chanoine is the Pediatrician onsite; Dr. Denina Helm is the Primary Care Physician; Dr. Renell Dupree practices Family Medicine, and Dr. Tracy Jones is the Psychiatrist.

The hours of operation for the Center for Health Equity are 9 am-5 pm, Mondays through Fridays.

The Black Doctors Covid-19 Consortium was founded in 2020 as the Coronavirus Pandemic was just starting to wreak havoc around the world. The Black doctors came out with their white coats, which could have been white capes as far as I’m concerned because it was as if Black doctors became super-heroes in the African American community. When it seemed that no one else would come and share covid-19 testing and then the immunizations with us because all other communities always seem to come before Black and Brown communities, it was Black doctors to the rescue.
