He became the first monarch in three decades to take part in Trooping the Colour on horseback, as he received the birthday wishes of a grateful nation.
More than 15,000 well-wishers turned up to watch Sovereign's Birthday Parade, by either lining the route from Buckingham Palace to Whitehall or joining the 8,000 who had beaten a quarter of a million ballot contenders to secure tickets to watch at Horse Guards Parade.
The Monarch, 74, cut a dashing figure as he rode the route. And cheers went up from the crowds as the Royal Family gathered on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the traditional finale to the annual event.
