She was introduced to the crowd by her successor Clare Balding. And the former French Open champion was clearly emotional after watching a video montage shown in her honour.
She then took her place in the Royal Box alongside fellow sports stars including four of England’s Lionesses.
Sue was joined in the best seats in the house by footballers Leah Williamson, Beth Mead, Jill Scott and Fran Kirby, who won the UEFA Women’s Euro championships last year.
Match of the Day host Gary Lineker and Olympic rower Sir Steve Redgrave were also among the famous faces watching British women’s number one Katie Boulter take on defending champ Elena Rybakina in a bid to reach the last 16 and play in the second week.
