Experts spot growing trend in Europe as Dutch vote for far-Right candidate

THE ELECTION success of anti-Islamist firebrand Geert Wilders in the Netherlands reflects a "growing trend" across the EU, experts said last night.

But they predicted that his inability to form a coalition would soon see the Dutch electorate being forced to take to the polls once more.

Wilders's surprise success last week came after the populist politician spent decades in the wilderness. It sent shockwaves across the Netherlands.

But though his Freedom Party won 50 per cent more seats than any other party, both of his potential political partners have declared that they will not form a coalition government with him.

During the campaign, Dilan Yesilgöz-Zegerius, the leader of the centre-right VVD, had tentatively opened the door to going into coalition with Wilders - one of the main reasons that he won so much traction at the polls. But now it seems the VVD and the newly formed NSC party may be trying to keep Wilders out of power.
