The five-time Grammy winner – who is said to have pioneered country pop with hits such as You’re Still The One, That Don’t Impress Me Much and I’m Gonna Getcha Good – stepped out of the spotlight after almost losing her voice completely.
The 57-year-old, whose long-awaited sixth studio album Queen Of Me is out on February 3, reveals in a new US interview she was unable to project her voice or sing properly for more than seven years and feared her career was doomed.
The Canadian-born star who has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, declared: “I couldn’t even yell out to the dog.”
Doctors eventually diagnosed her with Lyme disease from a 2004 tick bite which they believe damaged the nerves in her vocal cords.
