Starmer reaches out for the keys to No 10
Sunday Express|October 23, 2022
AS THE Conservatives continue to act as their own toughest Opposition imaginable with a breathtaking series of blunders that mean they expect the nation to believe in a political party that fields three different prime ministers in a matter of just a few months, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer could be excused for thinking his hopes of grasping the reins of power are growing by the day.
Starmer reaches out for the keys to No 10

 Or even minute!

His calls for a general election also have greater resonance and the description of “a revolving door of chaos” appears seemingly more apt than ever.

If this was a boxing match, Sir Keir could stand in his own corner and watch his opponent punch themselves continually in the face.

The Labour leader has been on a journey and rightly feels he deserves this whiff of power. Taking over during Covid and therefore denied the opportunity to address rallies of the party faithful – or even its annual conference – he had to take control and build confidence via video links. He also had to purge the party of the loathsome stain of anti-Semitism, something that had been denied time after time by most of the previous leadership.

He cleaned out that stable and has even successfully taken the fight to many on the hard Left, Jeremy Corbyn wing of the party. Earlier this month the Corbyn-supporting, Ilford South MP Sam Tarry was deselected by his own party members – the first time a deselection had happened in 10 years.
