We feel let down by all politicians over immigration
Sunday Express|September 17, 2023
THE British people were promised they’d take back control. But when it comes to the crunch issue of immigration, they might be forgiven for thinking their leaders have completely lost control.

We feel let down by all politicians over immigration

As the latest figures show, both legal and illegal immigration into Britain have soared to record numbers.

Last year, the number of immigrants entering Britain legally hit an eyewatering 1.2 million, while nearly 50,000 migrants entered the country illegally on small boats. Today, the British taxpayer is paying nearly £4billion a year to support our broken asylum system.

All this, understandably, has left millions of British people feeling utterly fed-up with an immigration system which is out of control.

Which is why, last week, Keir Starmer and the Labour Party turned their sights on the immigration issue, hoping to outflank the Tories at the looming election by outlining a new plan to tackle illegal migration.

And what do they want to do?

They want to scrap Rishi Sunak’s plan to deter illegal migrants by sending them to Rwanda.

They want to strike a new deal with the European Union whereby Britain would accept some of the rapidly rising numbers of migrants entering the EU while hoping the EU would take some back in return.

And they want to clamp down on the gangs helping migrants across the Channel.

While the plan might sound interesting it is, in fact, deeply flawed and will not come close to solving the problem.
