The Prince of Wales had been due to meet both the US President-elect Mr Trump and First Lady Jill Biden for private talks ahead of the ceremony in the French capital.
But instead arriving late, he was greeted by Mr Trump, who patted him on the shoulder before the two shook hands and spoke for a few seconds inside the medieval cathedral, refurbished at a cost of almost £1billion.
Kensington Palace confirmed Prince William chatted to Mrs Biden at the service and met with the Republican politician afterwards elsewhere in Paris - their first meeting since Mr Trump's state visit to the UK in 2019.
