Established through the Nalanda University Act of 2010, the new campus is situated near the ancient ruins of Nalanda, a historic site of learning.
During the inauguration, Modi unveiled a plaque and planted a sapling on the campus, marking the occasion. In his address, he expressed his optimism about the reawakening of Nalanda, stating, "Nalanda's reawakening, this new campus, will give the world an introduction to India's capability." He emphasized the significance of this event as the beginning of a golden era for India, adding, "I am happy that I got the opportunity to visit Nalanda within 10 days after swearing in as prime minister for the third time. Nalanda is not just a name, it is an identity and respect. Nalanda is a value and mantra-fire can burn books but it can't destroy knowledge."
