Most of us have experienced the sensation. It's that feeling of discomfort that some of us get when we are in a crowd or social setting.
Panic sets in and we get a dry mouth, clammy hands, our breathing becomes more rapid and our heart starts pounding furiously. It may eventually become so bad that the shy person chooses to avoid any situation in which they feel that they may be under the spotlight.
There are other symptoms which may also affect shy people and these include a shaky voice, sweating or hot flushes, an upset stomach, trembling, muscle tension, blushing or feeling faint.
