CHAMPION: ON THE WAY HE RUNS, NO 15 DRAW IS UNLIKELY TO HAMPER ROYAL VICTORY

Good draws for Cup favourites

This week we witnessed the announcement of the final field as well as the barrier draw for the Betway Summer Cup and what a beautiful event it turned out to be.

Betway and 4Racing went all out and they produced one of the best events I've attended. More important than the event itself was where the main protagonists drew and overall, I think all the main contenders were really happy with the outcome.

Some of the main horses that drew really well were: See It Again drew No 6, Main Defender No 3, Frances Ethel No 7 and Purple Pitcher No 8.

Royal Victory, the defending champion, drew No 15, but with his running style, it's not the end of the world, and I still believe he is a massive runner.

We also saw declarations take place for the entire meeting next Saturday, and it's an ultra-competitive card with some of the best horses in the country taking their places.

There are a number of big carryovers, so it's essential for readers to have profitable punting this week in order to have the extra money to lay down for the big meeting next Saturday.

On a personal note, recovery is going well and although I'm still quite tender, I feel that I'm ahead of schedule to return.

In saying this though, I will give it enough time that I don't ride with any pain in the future, so I won't be rushing it in any way.

Of course, being on the sidelines is really frustrating, especially when these massive meetings are upon us, but I do understand this is part and parcel of the game.

Racing today takes place at Turffontein as well as Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. Both meetings have some decent racing on offer but of course we'll be previewing the Turffontein card where there are eight competitive races on offer.

The headliner on the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth card is the Grade 2 Cape Punters Cup over 1600m.
