A LARGE park in the heart of Keyham has been designated the city’s first ever ‘Community Landing Site’ by Devon Air Ambulance.
North Down Park, surrounded mostly by the looping North Down Crescent, is now operational for the charity and has been hailed as a milestone in it’s Community Landing Site project.
The park is the first official city centre landing site and the first within Plymouth itself but it is hoped more will follow. The charity’s 203rd pre-surveyed landing site will enable their aircraft to land quickly and safely in the densely populated and heavily urbanised city of Plymouth during the hours of darkness, enabling their clinical teams to be able to reach patients more quickly.
One concern was the feelings and reaction to the proposal, following the tragic shooting on August 12, 2021 which saw a number of air ambulances land at the park to attend to those affected by the incident.
