BBC Radio "fell short' on riots coverage

BBC Radio Devon says it has ‘made changes’, after its lack of coverage of the Plymouth riots was criticised.

A complaint made to the corporation about its reaction to and coverage of the violent unrest in the city in August was fully investigated.

Broadcasting veteran David Lloyd, who has over 40 of years experience working in radio, has said in an online blog that he made the complaint, believing the BBC failed to deliver an appropriate local radio service to the public when violence erupted in Plymouth during antiimmigration protests.

The protests were covered through the night by The Herald’s sister website, Plymouth Live.

The complaint was investigated by the BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit (ECU), which works independently from editorial teams within the corporation. The findings were released to Mr Lloyd, who published some of the details on his blog.
