Defensive mistakes are costly again for Parkway

PLYMOUTH PARKWAY.................2

TAUNTON TOWN...........................2

PLYMOUTH Parkway entertained Taunton Town hoping to bounce back from their narrow 2-1 defeat to Walton & Hersham on Saturday and seeking a first Southern League win of the season.

Two enforced changes were made with the two Exeter City loanees, Tom Dean and Mitch Beardmore, once again unavailable and being replaced by Joe Wragg and Will Armstrong.

Callum Hall returned and was included among the substitutes along with Jack Crago on his return from a loan spell at Helston Athletic. Regular starters for Parkway last season, Adam Parkes, Tom Purrington and Toby Down were included in the visitors’ starting line-up, with Alfie Moulden, also once of Parkway, on the bench.

The game started in light drizzle with Parkway making the early running with their possession-based style moving the ball at pace and looking to switch the points of attack and they almost took the lead on 10 minutes. Neat build-up play along the left saw Mikey Williams make a trademark weaving run into the danger area with his pinpoint cross finding Matt Wright, whose far post header bounced off the crossbar and away to safety.

With the game opening up, the visitors took the lead on 14 minutes and once again, Parkway were the masters of their own downfall. Rio Garside was dispossessed facing his own goal in central midfield around 30 yards out with Aysa Corrick winning the challenge and taking advantage by striding forward and finishing low and hard into the bottom corner from around 15 yards.
