A PETITION has been launched to safeguard Derriford Hospital’s planned new Urgent and Emergency Care Facility.
South West Devon MP Rebecca Smith says axing Derriford’s planned new Urgent and Emergency Care Facility would be a “blow to the gut” for patients and NHS staff, and that the uncertainty has left patients “deeply concerned”.
The new planned care facility is one of 25 projects promised under the Conservatives that will now be reviewed by the new Labour government.
The schemes are part of the New Hospital Programme in England. But their future has been thrown into doubt after Health Secretary Wes Streeting said it was clear the programme – promised by the Tories in their 2019 election manifesto – was “undeliverable and unaffordable”.
The government said 20 schemes would be able to proceed and would not be part of the review – but all options would be looked at for the remaining 25.
