CITY FIGHTER TAKES ON BOOTH IN FINAL ELIMINATOR FIGHT

Ursu is ready to show what he can do

PLYMOUTH fighter Constantin Ursu can tonight seal his place as mandatory contender for the British and Commonwealth title when he faces unbeaten rival Lewis Booth in a final eliminator contest.

Ursu, now dubbed the Moldovan Monster, would be the first Plymouth boxer to fight for a British and Commonwealth title since Scott 'Dynamite' Dann first reached that level 20 years ago - but only if he can get past Booth.

Now promoted by Johnny Clark, Ursu faces a test of his growing credentials when he takes on Booth who is unbeaten in 15 outings - at the Brentwood Centre in Essex.

The clash, which is being streamed on DAZN, will see the winner go on to face current British and Commonwealth welterweight champion Harry Scarff, or his latest challenger, Liam Taylor.

Having been asked by his promoter to relinquish his Silver Commonwealth title this year, only to be matched against a journeyman, Ursu's trainer, Marlee Dann, said that Ursu is highly motivated to take his chance and put himself on course for much higher honours.

He said: "Constantin is all about fighting the best - he really wants the scalps and the reputation of being the best around.

"He's looked at Lewis Booth and seen that he is 15 and 0, and thinking that Lewis Booth is the first undefeated fighter that he is going to be fighting that he can take his record from.

"He is very motivated to put Lewis Booth into retirement. That is just Constantin's mentality, it's not my mentality.
