Vandals run amok as car tyres are slashed

POLICE have issued a warning to residents after dozens of vehicles had their tyres slashed by vandals overnight.

Many of those affected were parked around Tothill Park in the St Judes area, but there have also been reports of extensive car vandalism all over Plymouth in recent days, including in Mannamead, Lipson, Compton and Stoke.

Police are now urging people to make sure their CCTV home security is switched on, and that they park in well-lit areas.

One resident told The Herald that "over 20 cars" had their tyres slashed during an overnight spree in the Mannamead area. They said the vandals targeted vehicles on Fernleigh Road, Elm Road, Meadfoot Terrace and College Avenue.

One of the victims was an elderly person who was parked in a disabled bay, they said, while another was parked in their private driveway.

"Over 20 cars' tyres have been slashed/stabbed overnight along three streets in the Mannamead area, and it's affecting lots of people's livelihoods and wellbeing," the resident said. "It happened in Fernleigh Road, Elm Road, Meadfoot Terrace, and College Avenue, and I've also been told that Torpoint has been targeted too.
