As per a notification from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, the port is authorised to import crude oil from August 25, 2024, to March 1, 2026. The ministry stated that this decision aims to meet the growing demand for petroleum products in the country, as the import of these products is considered essential for the public interest.
The all-weather, deep-water port, managed by Adani Krishnapatnam Port, is one of the key ports on India's east coast.
