Speaking at a function held here on Saturday to distribute kits to labourers and financial assistance for unorganised workers, Minister Lad said 92 per cent of workers in the country are unorganised, and in Karnataka, 82 per cent to 85 per cent of workers belong to the unorganised sector.
Stating that 25 categories of unorganised workers have been identified, he said the government is providing social security benefits to the workers.
Around 35 lakh unorganised workers have been identified and benefits will be extended to gig workers as well.
He mentioned that the Building Construction Workers' Welfare Board collected around Rs 10,000 crore and efforts are being made to increase this collection.
As many as 56 lakh workers are registered in the state under the labourers' card scheme.
