A THREE-year-old girl, who had gone to attend nature's call at an Anganwadi toilet, died from a snakebite. The incident took place on Haluru Road in Mundgod when the victim Mayuri Kumbaleppanavar was bitten by the snake in her leg.
According to police, there is one toilet in the Anganwadi which was engaged when Mayuri came there. On finding the door closed, she went near the school compound wall where she is suspected to have been bitten by the snake. On seeing the injury, the school Anganwadi helper realised that it was a snakebite and immediately rushed her to a hospital where she died.
"There was no teacher in the school today. She was on leave. They knew that the child had died from a snakebite. But they could not find out which snake bit her. People here said that they have seen a cobra slithering around the place," police said.
