THE DELAY in the distribution of paddy procurement payments is pushing farmers in the state into distress. The State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) currently owes approximately ₹300.32 crore to 49,329 farmers across the state, following the commencement of paddy procurement for the 2024-25 season in August.

The main producing districts are Palakkad and Alappuzha. In Palakkad, farmers are owed ₹192.71 crore, but only ₹4.56 crore has been distributed so far. Meanwhile, in Alappuzha, farmers are owed ₹78.23 crore, with ₹7.39 crore distributed to date.
