IN a bid to neutralise the effect of diesel leak from the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) depot in Elathur into the water bodies in the area, officials have mixed a chemical brought from Mumbai even as inspections by a high-level HPCL team continue at the unit.
About 1,500 litres of diesel leaked into the drain from the Elathur HPCL depot on Wednesday when the tanks were being refilled as part of the maintenance work. The fuel spilled in about half a kilometre.
