Decide on streetlights on accident-prone stretch in Madurai: HC

THE Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday directed the state to take a decision expeditiously on the proposal sent by the assistant director of town panchayat for the installation of streetlights on the median of the road stretch from Fatima College to Samayanallur on the Madurai-Dindigul highway.

A bench of Justices MS Ramesh and AD Maria Clete gave the direction while hearing a petition filed over poor safety measures along the stretch, leading to frequent accidents.

During the previous hearing last week, the assistant director of Paravai Town panchayat told the court that a proposal had been submitted to the government to erect median streetlights in the above stretch of highway under Paravai town panchayat's jurisdiction.
