KARNATAKA Legislative Assembly Speaker U T Khader has directed officials to expedite the construction of the new Deputy Commissioner's Office Complex at Padil, ensuring its completion in time for the inauguration on January 17. This coincides with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's visit to Mangaluru for the State Olympics meet inauguration.

A RELIGIOUS prayer offered by elected members inside Gangolli Gram Panchayat in Kundapur taluk in Udupi district led to furore as political leaders fuelled it.

The election was held on December 8 for 33 seats in the Gram Panchayat, candidates backed by the Congress won 12 seats, 12 others were won by BJP-backed candidates, and the SDPI-backed candidates won seven seats, with two by others. The Congress-backed front, with the support of the SDPI-backed members, came to power in the Gram Panchayat.

Congress-backed candidate Jayanthi Kharvi became the President, and SDPI-backed elected member Mohammed Tabraz was elected as Vice-president.

During the oath-taking ceremony held on Thursday, the President and Vice-president

Khader, after inspecting the ongoing work on Friday, informed reporters that the authorities will make a final decision regarding the inauguration based on the progress by January 10.
