The Kerala State School Arts Festival, attended by over 15,000 students, has turned into an ideal venue for propagating the ongoing anti-littering campaign launched by the state government as part of the 'Malinya Muktham Nava Keralam' initiative that aims to declare Kerala a garbage-free state by March. In an effort to reduce the generation of single-use plastics, a strict green protocol has been enforced at all venues and accommodation units.
As many as 600 young volunteers have been deployed at all venues for plastic arrests and propagating the concept of segregation, avoiding the usage of single-use plastics. Harya S Harilal, a young volunteer doing plastic arrest, said that the majority of the people visiting the venues are cooperating with them. "But some of them are going back with the plastic bottles to avoid plastic arrests," said the plus-two student.
