Indrasingh Gurjar and his wife Dharini Gurjar, Ahmedabad-based powerlifters, have won several medals in powerlifting at the national as well as international level, and even set new world records in different categories. And at the recently held WPC (World Powerlifting Congress) World Championships 2022 held in Orlando, Florida, their 10-year-old daughter Kanak made India proud too. Kanak, who weighs 37 kg, competed in the 44 kg category and won a gold medal by lifting a deadlift of 60 kg and broke the world record in the squat by lifting 50 kg. Dharini, who competed in the women’s 82.5 kg category, lifted a total of 370 kg to win a gold medal. Indrasingh, who competed in the men’s 82.5 kg category, narrowly missed out on winning the gold medal and he lifted a total of 620 kg to win the silver medal. Understandably, the family is on cloud nine.
I NEVER EXPECTED TO BREAK THE WORLD RECORD: KANAK Kanak, a student of class V, doesn’t have much experience in powerlifting but last month, she surprised her parents by lifting 102.5 kg at the Gujarat State Powerlifting Championship.
