Children on bus alert driver after boy struck and killed

York police say a bus driver struck and killed a six-year-old boy on Tuesday morning in Kleinburg. "The bus driver didn't even know what she had done," said Samson Adepena, who witnessed the aftermath of the incident.

York Regional Police said the boy was hit at the intersection of Kleinburg Summit Way and Pierre Berton Boulevard just before 8 a.m.

The driver remained at the scene.

Police have not identified the child but the Star has confirmed, with multiple neighbours and sources close to the family, that he is Matteo Caputi. He was a Grade 1 student at St. Stephen Catholic Elementary School in Vaughan.

"Matteo will always be remembered as a happy little boy who lit up the lives of everyone who was lucky enough to have known him," reads a GoFundMe page organized by colleagues of Caputi's grandmother, who worked at Re/Max Premier Inc.
