NHL seeks research on late player

Steve Montador, right, shown in 2006, is the subject of Ken Dryden’s book “Game Change: The Life and Death of Steve Montador and the Future of Hockey,” in which Dryden says the NHL needs to change its rules to help reduce brain injuries.

The NHL is urging the Ontario Superior Court of Justice to force Hockey Hall of Famer and author Ken Dryden to hand over “critically important” information related to the death of former defenceman Steve Montador.

In an application filed last month, the league and its Board of Governors want Dryden to make available all the documents, audio or video recordings and other important material in his possession connected to the book he wrote on Montador.

Dryden’s book “Game Change: The Life and Death of Steve Montador and the Future of Hockey” was published in 2017, just over two years after Montador’s death at the age of 35.
