Springer's bat comes to life

They waited until their 80th game of the season, but the Blue Jays finally exploded out of the gate and rode a big first couple of innings to a huge early lead and coasted to an easy victory, taking down the visiting New York Yankees 9-2 in the opener of a four-game series.

George Springer gets soaked with Gatorade after a fantastic night at the plate that included his 250th career home run on Thursday at Rogers Centre.

The team that had scored only 23 first-inning runs all season — worst in the American League — crossed the plate five times Thursday before recording their first out of the game.
