'We are all Oilers now!' Rapper drops a remix of his playoff anthem

"I be skating on your whole team, Connor McDavid," Cadence Weapon raps on the new remix of his 2017 Oilers playoff song.

For the first time in 18 years, the Edmonton Oilers are back in the Stanley Cup Finals, and fans across the country are riding high.

Those fans include Rollie Pemberton, a Polaris Prize-winning rapper and one-time Edmonton Poet Laureate who goes by Cadence Weapon.

“It feels like we’re a team of destiny,” Pemberton told the Star before the Game 1 puck drop against the Florida Panthers on Saturday night.

“We’ve taken off the shackles of our previous playoff runs. We’ve learned from our past mistakes and we’ve made it back to the Stanley Cup.”

On Friday, Pemberton released a remix of his 2017 Oilers playoff anthem “Connor McDavid,” an ode to both the team’s superstar captain and its legion of fans.

“Yeah, City of Champions/Yeah, we bring it back again,” Pemberton raps over jubilant horns and hand claps, sprinkling references to the Oilers goaltender and “E-Town legend” Stuart Skinner, head coach Kris Knoblauch, and Pemberton’s defensive doppelgänger: “At the club, girls calling me Darnell Nurse.”
