It can be said that Delhi Capitals (DC) had arguably the best auction of the five teams that will take part in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). They purchased 18 players at the auction, completing their squad strength. Delhi were left with Rs 35 lakh after the end of the auction. Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues was Delhi’s most expensive purchase at Rs 2.2 crore. DC also purchased explosive opener Shafali Verma for Rs 2 crore. Looking at their other key Indian purchases, Delhi went for pacer Shikha Pandey at Rs 60 lakh, left-arm spinner Radha Yadav for Rs 40 lakh, and legspinner Poonam Yadav for Rs 30 lakh. They also purchased keeper-batter Taniyaa Bhatia for Rs 30 lakh. Among overseas players, DC went for Australia captain Meg Lanning for Rs 1.1 crore, South African allrounder Marizanne Kapp for Rs 1.5 crore, England’s batting all-rounder Alice Capsey for Rs 75 lakh, and Australia’s left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen for Rs 50 lakh.
