INDIA'S ROAD TO WTC QUALIFICATION: 4 STRATEGIES TO DEFEAT AUSTRALIA IN BGT SERIES

After a humbling whitewash at home against New Zealand, India now faces an uphill task to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) Finals. The only way forward is a 4-0 victory over Australia in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series. Given Australia’s strengths and the series' stakes, India needs a welldefined game plan and flawless execution to secure a clean sweep. Here’s a look at four critical strategies that could lead India to that much-needed 4-0 result.

1. STICK TO THE BASICS AND AVOID OVER-EXPERIMENTATION

India has a deep bench of talented players, but consistency is paramount with so much on the line. During the series against New Zealand, the team tried multiple combinations and unconventional strategies that often disrupted team balance. This time, it’s essential that India avoids such experimentation and adheres to a proven core strategy, focusing on the fundamentals that have served them well. One of the keys to a consistent lineup is ensuring a solid pace attack, especially in Australian conditions. With no Mohammed Shami for this series, India should field a pace trio led by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, who are both suited to Australian pitches. Their ability to swing the ball and extract bounce will be crucial. Alongside them, India needs a third seamer, someone reliable and in form who can provide variety while maintaining control. By retaining a core bowling lineup, the team can build synergy and develop the rhythm needed to trouble Australian batters consistently across all four matches.

2. PLAY BOTH ASHWIN AND JADEJA FOR BALANCE AND DEPTH
