Steve Knight - 1967-2023

A master cyclo-cross rider who won over 250 races during a lifetime of racing died while out training recently.

Steve Knight was known as the 'King of Sutton Park' after winning the 1999 CX National Championships on his home turf.

Knight started winning CX races as a youth at his home Manor Stadium course in Halesowen, going on to win national honours and countless regional accolades.

The current British masters cyclo-cross champion was preparing for another season of defending his West Midlands CX League title when he suffered a medical incident while out training.

Knight came to prominence on the elite stage and medalled in the National Champs twice behind Barrie Clarke and Nick Craig in 1997 and 1998 respectively.

The amateur rider, who often worked six days a week, had his moment to shine the following year.

Roared home by a huge Birmingham crowd, five people deep on the barriers, Knight beat the country's top professionals to win the coveted title.
