BONNER PRIDE AT HIS U'S TENURE

MARK Bonner says he will always be proud of what he achieved in his almost four-year reign as Cambridge United manager.

Appointed initially as interim boss in January 2020, he took charge permanently two months later. He led Cambridge to promotion in his first full season at the helm and, in January last year, guided the U's to a famous 1-0 FA Cup win at Newcastle.

Bonner steered Cambridge to a creditable 14th place on their League One bow. Last season they avoided relegation on the final day and this term they had slithered to 18th place on the back of three straight defeats, which included a 5-0 derby drubbing at Peterborough and a 3-0 home reverse against Lincoln on Tuesday.

The match against the Imps proved to be his last as the U's pulled the plug on the home-town boss who had come through the club's coaching ranks to take the top job.

In a statement released by the League Managers Association, Bonner said: "I will miss the connections, camaraderie and teamwork.

Reflecting on our many achievements fills me with pride.
