The 58-year-old led the Stags to a long-desired promotion from League Two last term and they headed into this weekend in a healthy seventh place in the third tier. That was despite having only played 13 games ahead of yesterday’s visit of Bristol Rovers, the joint-lowest number alongside high-flying Birmingham.
It appears to have been a seamless transition and the vastly experienced Clough, fast approaching a whopping 1,500 games as a manager, is revelling in the adventure.
“We are delighted but we are also aware that we’ve played the least games in the league,” he said. “We’ve had international breaks so we’ve got some catching up to do. We’ve got to get some points in the games in hand to try to get back in the top six.
