Money from owner Dicky Evans runs out at the end of the year, and the clauses were put in place should Pirates be unable to afford a professional side in 2025.

But chief executive Sally Pettipher says the club has cut its deficit this season from more than £500,000 to about £200,000 and is confident for the future as she continues to seek new investment.

Pettipher said: “Confirming that break clauses were recently lifted from the players’ contracts, I can add that the team at Pirates have made great strides in commercial development and, while we’re not over the line yet, with current and upcoming initiatives I was confident enough to give the players that security.”
