If you have only a short time in Egypt's capital, here's where to visit:
1 National Museum of Egyptian Civilization
The most likely starting point for a trip to Egypt is its capital, Cairo. The city can easily take three to four days to explore, however, if you're on a busy schedule and only have an afternoon to spare, you can't miss the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC). The NMEC is situated in the heart of the city, near the historical area of Old Cairo. It is close to several other prominent museums and archaeological sites and was established to showcase the rich and diverse history of Egyptian civilisation from prehistoric times to the modern era.
The museum's mission is to preserve and present Egypt's cultural heritage, emphasising its significance in shaping world history. Consisting of a contemporary building with a unique facade inspired by ancient Egyptian motifs, its modern and innovative architectural design is a notable feature. The structure incorporates elements of traditional and contemporary architecture, while the museum's extensive collection boasts artefacts spanning Egypt's history. Visitors can explore sections dedicated to different historical periods, including the pre-dynastic era, the Pharaonic period, the Greco-Roman period and Coptic and Islamic Egypt.
