Phillip Schofield’s ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair and reports of toxicity behind the scenes at ITV have dominated headlines for months.

And while bosses at ITV have been scrambling to return This Morning to its former glory, independent lawyer Jane Mulcahy KC has been conducting an external report on the scandal and alleged toxic working culture at the show. 1 The report found that ITV did not cover up the relationship between Phil, 61, and the younger colleague. Station bosses had made ‘considerable efforts’ to discover the truth in 2019 – four years before the affair broke – but were ‘unable to uncover the relevant evidence’ until the presenter’s own admission in May.
