South Downs National Park
The 100-mile ridgeline of the South Downs takes you through impressive rolling hills, ancient woodlands and jagged chalky cliffs. Adventures here abound; try mountain biking past tumultuous rivers, embark on scenic walking routes and cool off in the brisk waters of the Heritage coastline, where marine wildlife thrives.
As the sun sets on the blooming grasslands and tangled yew groves, the night grows bright with stars. The South Downs has skies so clear you'll spot the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy. From 9 to 25 February 2024, the Dark Skies Festival offers night hikes, star parties and astrophotography workshops. You'll also find seven stargazing hotspots, stretching from Winchester Planetarium to Birling Gap; southdowns.gov.uk.
