'They've kept me in the family fold'

I know some people believe that when you split with a partner, you should cut contact with their family, but I don't have time for that sort of drama. After 20 years with my ex-partner, I loved his family and, when we split, I bore them no ill will.
So it's wonderful that, as time's gone on, they've kept me in the family fold and, although we don't live nearby, we send Christmas cards and chat on social media.
