When the going gets tough, how do you respond? Do you get going - or do you run for the hills? Much like eating well and exercising to keep our bodies healthy, we need to adopt everyday habits and exercises to help keep ourselves mentally and emotionally fit for when life, as it often does, demands it. Here's how.
Me, myself and I
Do you enjoy your own company? Well, you should do. You're great! Aside from this absolute truth, learning to love being alone will do wonders for your well-being. While solitude has long been linked with creativity and respite, it can also enhance your mental might. Self-awareness, improved organisation and better stress management are common results from regular alone time.
Bin belittlers
Having a strong support network around us when we're working on our mental strength can play a pivotal part in our journey. In contrast it's important to take stock of outside influences draining our gumption. When we recognise those who persistently engage with us in a destructive way we can address such damaging conduct by saying aloud, 'I won't tolerate this any more,' and resolving where possible to distance yourself from such people.
Make your bed
Research shows those who make their beds first thing in the morning are often more productive and garner a stronger sense of accomplishment throughout their day with every completed task. This simple act of ticking off something positive in turn lends itself to feeling more focused - leaving you mentally stronger as a result.
