For a debut novel, you can’t get much bigger than Trent Dalton’s semi autobiographical Boy Swallows Universe, which sold by the truckload, won countless awards, was published in 34 countries and has been adapted for stage.

Yet despite its dizzying success, it wasn’t until it was announced that the book would be turned into a big-budget series for Netfl ix – starring The Mentalist’s Simon Baker – that his daughters Beth and Sylvie would take any notice of their father’s work. Trent, 44, tells Woman’s Day, “For them, literary fiction? Forget about it. But Netfl ix is their life!”
